About Lindsay
A Broad Legal Background
Lindsay Calkins brings a wide-ranging legal background shaped by experience in multiple roles within Washington’s justice system. Over the course of her career, she has represented individuals and businesses in complex matters, worked closely with judges, and handled cases at both the trial and appellate levels. This breadth of experience has given her a comprehensive understanding of how cases move through the courts and how judicial decisions affect real people.
Having served in different capacities within the legal system, Lindsay understands that each case represents more than a legal question — it represents individuals, families, and community interests. Her work has required careful preparation, thoughtful analysis, and the ability to evaluate arguments from all sides. These experiences have reinforced her belief that the best judicial decisions are rooted in careful listening, respect for the law, and a balanced assessment of the facts.
Because she has seen the justice system from multiple vantage points, Lindsay appreciates both the weight of judicial responsibility and the importance of impartiality. She is committed to bringing that perspective to the Seattle Municipal Court, ensuring that every matter before her is approached with fairness, diligence, and professionalism.
Education & Professional Experience
Lindsay’s academic and professional training reflect a longstanding commitment to excellence and public service. She graduated with honors from Princeton University before earning her law degree from the University of Chicago Law School, where she served on the Law Review. Following law school, she clerked on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, gaining invaluable insight into judicial reasoning, legal writing, and the disciplined application of the law.
She is admitted to practice in all Washington State courts as well as multiple federal courts. Throughout more than a decade of legal practice, Lindsay has handled a diverse range of cases, including criminal matters, commercial disputes, and appellate litigation. Her work has required not only strong advocacy skills, but also the ability to analyze complex legal issues, weigh competing arguments, and navigate high-stakes proceedings with professionalism.
This combination of rigorous academic training and substantial courtroom experience has prepared Lindsay to serve as a judge who is thoughtful, prepared, and grounded in the law. She approaches each case with intellectual discipline and an understanding of the serious responsibility entrusted to the judiciary.
Community & Service
Beyond her legal practice, Lindsay has remained deeply engaged in service to the legal profession and the broader community. She has taken on leadership roles within the King County Bar Association, contributing to efforts that strengthen the local legal community and promote professionalism within the courts. She also volunteers her time mentoring and judging student mock trial competitions, helping to inspire the next generation of lawyers and civic leaders.
Lindsay believes that public service extends beyond the courtroom. She has volunteered her legal skills in community clinics and has participated in humanitarian work abroad, experiences that have reinforced her belief in service, empathy, and responsibility. These commitments reflect her understanding that the justice system functions best when legal professionals remain connected to the communities they serve.
Outside of her professional life, Lindsay values time with her family and enjoys activities that foster balance and resilience. She believes that the qualities that make a good neighbor — respect, listening, integrity, and accountability — are the same qualities that make a good judge.
